The Start of My US West Coast Trip: Surviving San Francisco Airport Immigration ๐ฌ๐ฆ
After a 10-hour flight from Incheon, I finally arrived at SFO Airport in the afternoon.

The SFO Immigration line was quite long. Even though the staff tried to manage the flow, the waiting time was nearly an hour.
๐ค US Entry Profile
Iโm a female traveler from Korea visiting with a friend. We were a bit nervous because we heard US Immigration for solo female travelers or small groups can be strict. My friend even joked about not speaking English too fluently to avoid any visa suspicion.
โ US Immigration Checklist (What I prepared):
- ESTA Authorization printout
- Hotel vouchers and bookings
- US domestic flight tickets (SFO to LAX/LAS)
The Immigration Interview Experience I ended up spending more time at the immigration counter than anyone else. Here is the actual US immigration question list I received from the CBP officer:
- Traveling alone? -> With a friend.
- Purpose of visit? -> US Sightseeing during winter break.
- Specific plans in LA? -> Universal Studios and Disneyland.
- Show me the tickets. -> I showed my mobile booking on my phone.
- Plans in Las Vegas? -> Watching the Sphere show. (Las Vegas travel)
- How much cash? -> Mentioned my travel budget in USD and cards.
- Source of funds? -> Support from parents (I actually used my own savings too, but I figured this answer would be better to avoid any visa suspicion or misunderstanding about working in the US.)
How to pass US Immigration without stress: It took about 5โ10 minutes, which is longer than average. My friend at the next immigration booth passed much faster. My advice? ๐คจ๐ค
- Have your travel documents ready (printed is better!).
- Answer immigration officer questions briefly and honestly.
Don’t worry too much! Even though my SFO entry experience was a bit intense, most genuine tourists pass without any issues. ๐ค
